Saws and Pruners

Using the right tool and of good quality will save you much time and effort as well as being able to make clean cuts.

  • Bow Saws ~ for larger branches, the "pointed" version allows one to get in amongst twigs and branches more easily; blades for sap wood and for dry wood are available.
  • Hedge Shears ~ suitable for trimming modest sized hedges.
  • Secateurs ~ Anvil (one blade stopped upon a thicker one) and Bypass (blades cross) versions for making precision cuts on twigs and stems.
  • Loppers ~ Anvil and Bypass versions, sometimes ratchetted to provide extra force for thicker twigs and small branches.
  • Pole Loppers ~ these Loppers can reach up into trees saving ladder work.
  • Pole Saws ~ basically a Pruning Saw on a pole to save ladder work.
  • Pruning Knife ~ for intricate cutting such as grafting.
  • Pruning Saw ~ for medium thick branches and will usually allow more ease of access than a Bow Saw.

Brands which are a cut above the rest are: Bahco, Felco, Silky, Stihl, Victorinox, Wolf.
